She was born in Camagüey. Since her childhood she started to stand out as a solo singer, actress and vedette. From 1963 and for several decades uninterruptedly she has acted in radio, cinema, television, and theater, achieving an enormous celebrity. She has acted in more than 20 countries where she has taken all varieties of Afro-Cuban music: guaracha, son, bolero, rumba, guaguancó, trova tradicional, and filin. She has been awarded numerous decorations.
